Quipper School Create allows teachers to create their own educational materials for use on Quipper School!


To access Quipper School Create.


Step 1. Click the Go to button in the top right corner of your Quipper School Link dashboard.


Step 2. Click Create.

What is a "course"?

Courses on Quipper School are educational programmes that are designed to cover large parts of the curriculum. They are made up of modules and topics.

  • Example Course: Grade 6 Mathematics

  • Example Module: Geometry

  • Example Topic: Types of Quadrilateral


Creating a course


Step 1. At the Courses page, Click Create your first course or Create course (if you have already created a course).

Step 2. Give your course a name and click Create.

What is a "course description"?

Course descriptions are a smart way to briefly describe what's inside a course.

Step 1. Enter your description in the space with the placeholder text: Add a brief description of this course.

What is a "course icon"?

Course icons allow teachers and students to easily identify the type of subject they're assigning or studying!


Quipper School automatically assigns a relevant icon based on the keywords you use in your course name. For example, 'Grade 6 Mathematics'.


Adding or changing a course icon


Step 1. To view a course icon, hit the Course Icon button:

Step 2. Click the icon to expand your selection. You can choose from Quipper's icons or upload your own image from your computer's drive.

What is a "module"?

Modules are the middle stage between larger courses and small, piecemeal topics for study. They group together topics that make up courses!

  • Example Course: Grade 6 Mathematics

  • Example Module: Geometry

  • Example Topic: Types of Quadrilateral

Step 1. Open the course that you want to contain the new module.

Step 2. Click anywhere along the + Add Module bar.

Step 3. Give your module a name. Hit enter or click away from the box.

You can see the number of the topics inside a module in the middle of the name bar.

Click the module name to open it!


What is a "topic"?

Topics are the small, ongoing parts of a student's study programme, made up of lessons and questions.


Students master topics one at a time on Quipper School Learn to build their knowledge.


  • Example Course: Grade 6 Mathematics

  • Example Module: Geometry

  • Example Topic: Types of Quadrilateral

Step 1. Open the module that you want to contain the new topic.


Step 2. Click the + Add Topic button.


Step 3. Give your topic a name. Hit enter or click away from the box.

What is a "lesson"?

Lessons are the part of a topic where students learn about a subject, before testing themselves with questions.

Lessons are optional.

Lessons are made up of chapters.


Like all Quipper School content, lessons may contain the following types of media:

Step. 2 Click anywhere along the + Add lesson chapter bar.

What is a "chapter"?

Chapters are different sections of a [lesson](http://(http://help.quipperschool.com/en/article_groups/getting-started-with-quipper-school-create/articles/what-is-a-lesson). Use them to break your lesson up into smaller, relevant pieces. They appear to students like slides in a presentation!

Each lesson must contain a minimum of one chapter. This is created automatically when you first start creating a lesson.

Step 1. Open the lesson where you want to add an extra chapter.


Step 2. Click + Add new chapter

Step. 3. Input your text, image or equation into the new chapter.

What is a "passage"?

Passages may be attached to questions. They are useful when you want to refer multiple questions back to the same piece of text, image or equation.


Creating passages


Step 1. Open the topic where you want to add a passage.

Step 2. Click + Add passage

Step 3. Input your passage.

This passage can now be simply attached to any question in the topic.

Step 1. Underneath the question box, you will see the option to select a passage from a drop down. Select the passage you want to attach to your question.

This passage will now be visible to students alongside the questions on Quipper School Learn.

What is a "question"?

Questions are where you can test your students' knowledge! Topics are typically made up of multiple questions that assess a student's knowledge of the subject.

  • Example Topic: Types of Quadrilateral

  • Example Question: This shape has four 90° angles and two sides that are 3cm, two sides that are 5cm. What shape is it?

What is a "hint"?

Hints may be used to give students some help with answering a question. They are optional and will only appear to a student if they click the Hint button on Quipper School Learn.

  • Example Question: This shape has four 90° angles and two sides that are 3cm, two sides that are 5cm. What shape is it?

  • Example Hint: Remember that squares have equal angles and equal sides. Which similar shape has two different sets of sides?

Step. 2 Scroll down to the bottom of the page and input your text.

What is an "explanation"?

Explanations may be used to explain why an answer was correct. They are optional and will only appear to a student after he/she answers a question.

  • Example Question: This shape has four 90° angles and two sides that are 3cm, two sides that are 5cm. What shape is it?

  • Example Explanation: Rectangles have four 90° angles and two different sets of equal length sides that are positioned parallel to one another.

How can I format text?

You can use basic formatting on all types of Quipper School content.

When typing on the Text Editor pane, you will see a real-time update of your text in the Live Preview pane.

You can use the following symbols to create basic formatting effects:

Header tags


Header tags add colour and structure to your content. There are several to choose from.


Step 1. Click the Headings button.


Step 2. Select a heading from the box.

Step 3. Choose a heading title between the {title brackets}.

Step 4. Enter your text input between the [open] and [/close] tags.

How can I upload an image?

Images (.png *and *.jpg file format) can be uploaded in all forms of Quipper School content, including:

  • Lessons
  • Questions/Answer options/Explanations/Hints
  • Passages

Step 1. Move the cursor to the place where you would like to place the image.

Step 2. Click the Upload image button.

In the Text Editor pane, you will see the image in code form. Example: ![image][547de81f3ae091374e000294]

In the Live Preview pane, you will see the actual image.

How can I add a mathematical or scientific equation?

Basic equations can be built inside Quipper School Create.


Adding an equation


Step 1. Place the cursor where you would like to insert an equation.

Step 2. Click the Equation button.

Step 3. Enter your equation into the Equation builder box using the available tools. Click Add when you've finished.

In the Text Editor pane, you will see the equation in code form. Example: [% 13^2\times15^2 %]

In the Live Preview pane, you will see the actual equation.

What is "preview mode"?

Preview mode allows you to quickly see how a topic you've created will appear to students in Quipper School Learn.

Step 1. Open the topic you want to preview.


Step 2. Click Preview topic.

You will now see your topic in a pop-up, as your students will see it.

You can also toggle whether to display a topic as it would be seen on a larger tablet screen or a smaller phone screen.

What is a "single choice" question?

Single choice questions present a student with a multiple choice question that has only one correct answer.

Step 1. Single choice is the default setting for new questions. However, you can select question types at any time by clicking the Question Type drop down arrow.

Step 2. Enter between 2 and 10 different answer options. Hit Enter/Return on your keyboard or click + Add new answer to create additional answer options.

Step 3. The first answer option is labelled correct by default. If this option is not correct, click the button next to the correct answer to select it.

What is a "multiple choices" question?

Multiples choices questions present a student with a multiple choice question that has more than one correct answer.

Step 2. Enter between 2 and 10 different answer options. Hit Enter/Return on your keyboard or click + Add new answer to create additional answer options.

Step 3. The first answer option is labelled correct by default. Click the button next to all correct answers to select them. Click it again to deselect them.

What is a "correct value" question?

Correct value questions require a student to input a specific value when answering.

Step 2. Enter the exact values that are considered correct, separated by a comma.

Note: Answer inputs are not case sensitive. You do not need to enter all combinations of upper- and lower-case letters.


What is a "correct order" question?

Correct order questions require students to sort answer options into the right order.

Step 2. Enter your answer options, with the top being the first in the order and the bottom being the last.

Note: You may include incorrect answers that should be excluded by students when they decide the correct order. Click the button to toggle an answer option as correct/incorrect.

What is a "categorise" question?

Categorise questions require a student to place answer options into groups.

Step 2. Create categories. Hit Enter/Return or + Add new category to create additional categories.

Note: You may include incorrect answers that should be excluded by students when they categorise answers. Leave these in the default state as 'No category'.

How do I reorder content?

Changing the order of your content elements on Quipper School Create is simple.

You can use the same drag and drop method to reorder each of the following:

  • Modules
  • Topics
  • Lesson chapters
  • Questions

You can drag and drop elements by clicking on them, dragging them and dropping them.


What do "published"/"not published" mean?

  • Courses labelled Published are available to be assigned to classes by teachers on Quipper School Link.

  • Courses labelled Not published are still in a draft phase and are only visible to content creators on Quipper School Create.

Publishing a course


Step 1. Open the course that you want to publish.


Step 2. When you're ready for your course to go live, click either of the Publish buttons.


You can see a course's publish status in the top-right box at any time.


You can see modules' and topics' publish status at the right end of the bar at any time.
